So in the last two weeks the almost unheard of social platform Vero (truth) has got a lot of media coverage, it’s servers have crashed under the pressure from so much unexpected traffic & people have slated it’s service because of outages and slow server speeds.

But what is Vero, and should healthcare practices be joining?

 

To use their own words this is what Vero is

“Vero is a social network for anyone who loves anything enough to share it – and wants control over who they share it with. Just like we do in real life.”

Vero is being touted as a real antidote the advert heavy and content controlling algorithms of the other big social networks. The main difference being that Vero with never carry advertising. Instead the platform plans to make it’s revenue from affiliate product sales (allowed on the platform) and paid membership.

They are front loading membership numbers by offering free accounts to the first 1,000,000 members to sign up, although the recent huge interest has seen them now issue a statement

“As promised, our first million users have access to Vero free for life. However, given the service interruptions, we are extending that offer to all new users until further notice.”

So the question I’ve been asked a lot by clients this week is – Should healthcare practices be joining Vero?

It’s very early days and as yet there is not a large enough critical mass of members to show us where the platform is going, but I wanted to provide a response that I felt gave practices a sensible course of action, for now.

So here are my thoughts on the Vero phenomenon

QUICK CORRECTION – the web URL is vero.co NOT vero.com – sorry.

So that’s what I recommend for now.

  • Sign up
  • Set up your profile fully
  • Start playing with the platform and posting to build your confidence
  • BUT don’t go all in, until we see what the uptake is like & we figure out how it might work within our industry to help us connect & grow our KLT in an authentic way, with people who want to hear what we have to say.
